Wewena Ngiiwewinaa

Wewena Ngiiwewinaa — meaning “Taking Her Home Safely” — is a program of the Ne-Chee Friendship Centre dedicated to supporting the reintegration of Indigenous women from the provincial correctional system safely back into their homes and communities.

A Wewena Ngiiwewinaa worker works closely with Indigenous women to assist with discharge planning, provide cultural-based programming and spiritual services, and build a strong mentoring relationship that encourages healthy decision-making. Workers also provide connections and referrals to community resources to ensure each woman has the support network she needs.

Through this program, women have opportunities and options to address their unique needs through appropriate Indigenous programming, supports, and services — building healing relationships for the opportunity to walk a better path.

We promote healing by supporting the 3 R’s: Restoration, Reclaiming, and Revitalization of Indigenous languages, culture, and positive Indigenous identities.
